M6 MR6150 Not Connecting to 5G NR (n78) in Brazil – Only LTE

GoodMorning!

Hello, I’m using a Netgear Nighthawk M6 (MR6150) in Brazil with a Vivo SIM card. This SIM is on the same mobile plan as my phone, and when inserted into my iPhone, it connects to 5G NR (n78) and gets speeds over 1200 Mbps.

However, when used in the M6, the device only connects to LTE (B1), even though the 5G NR band n78 is available and supported by both the carrier and the M6. The device shows “5GSUB6” in the status, but under Radio Band, it still shows LTE only. Speed tops out at ~40 Mbps.

I have already:

- Updated to the latest firmware
- Set the correct APN (zap.vivo.com.br)
- Tested different network modes (5G Only, 5G/4G Auto, etc.)
- Verified that the M6 MR6150 supports n78
- Compared the exact same SIM at the same location in a phone (which gets 5G NR just fine)

Is there a way to force or lock the M6 to use NR band n78, or to troubleshoot why it won’t connect to 5G NR even when available?

Any help or command-line tools to check this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Mark

  • The tower decides whether a device can connect to a certain band, not the MR6150. I looked at the device spec for MR6150, I do not see that it specifically says support for NR78. Here are the listed supported NR bands by the MR6150:

    5G Sub6: n2/n5/n12/n14/n25/n29/n30/n41/n48/n66/n71/n77
