Hi,
[Copied from Mobile Solutions / Hotspots channel]
I have purchased an Insight Pro subscription to try to manage my M6 Pro MR6450 mobile router remotely. I have successfully managed to get the router enrolled and can see it through the Insight Portal. have built a device profile with most of the settings I need the M6 to have, but I cannot see all of the settings I need. I have the M6 available so I can fiddle with settings and reset etc., but I need to be able to manage the settings remotely because soon the M6 will be deployed at a much more inaccessible location.
1) Where can I enable the M6 Ethernet port through Insight Pro? This is OFF by default after any reset and is critical to the role the M6 will have. I cannot see any setting for enabling the Ethernet port in the Insight Pro mobile device profiles etc, and on the device screen or local GUI the option is greyed out when controlled by Insight... If an option like this for a major feature exists in the device natively, it surely MUST exist in the management software, right?!!
2) I also cannot find the setting for 'power mode' within Insight Pro (i.e. balanced, performance, max performance without battery)? There's nothing equivalent in the mobile device profiles etc. Again, while this is easy to find in the device screen or local GUI, the option is greyed out when controlled by Insight...
3) For points 1 and 2 above, is there a way to set the mobile device profile in Insight so that these settings are not changed when the device becomes managed, if those settings have been pre-configured? I guess this might be in the Enforcement Settings part of the mobile device profile, but which part?
4) Is there any way to see the SMS received by the router remotely? It's needed for service activations.. I guess this is likely not possible for user privacy reasons, but in this case, how to make the local GUI available remotely? See question 5..
5) I was really hoping Insight Pro would let me simply access a version of the same dashboard I see if I manage the router locally through a web browser. Have I missed something? Under the Devices box in the Mobile tab of Insight, I get an IP address for the M6 listed and it's a hyperlink. I believe this should allow me to access the normal 'local' GUI but it has only ever worked once to do this. All other times it fails to connect. What do I need to set for this to work properly, some port number or something?, or is it a case of it depending on what IP the cellular provider has assigned? The only time it worked was when the connection was between two mobile devices on the same provider in roughly the same location..
Thanks,
Geoff

Hey Jeff, I've encountered similar limitations with Insight Pro on the M6 Pro — some key settings like Ethernet and power mode don't show up remotely. It's frustrating, especially when these options are grayed out once you've set them up. Would love to know if anyone has found a solution or confirmed if these are just unsupported in Insight.

I spoke to Netgear Support ans they said these were not currently supported in Insight. They were going to ask whether there was any plan to implement them and email me back, but that was over a month ago and I guess silence means they're not..!

In addition, they said that the only way to manage those currently was to make sure the deviuce had a public IP address and then the local management GUI could be accessed remotely. User changes to device settings could then also need to be allowed through the Insight device profile..

Only way I manage my MR router is using the NG Mobile app or from the MRs web UI. Insight app isn't supporting of the MR line of products. Insight is mostly for NGs business line of Switches and Wireless APs.
I can enabled the ethernet port thru the Mobile app and operation Power modes as well.

Yeah, if you have access to the local network where the router is in use (or the mobile provider gives a public IP) then this is obviously the easy way to do it. I've solved my access issue by now running a mini PC in the local network that I can access remotely with TeamViewer - it is set up to already 'know' both the configured WiFi SSID and the default one of the router...
