MR1100 unsecured network Firmware update issue

Hello,

I have been left an unlocked MR1100 from work and I've been able to add a SIM card to it and have internet access.

My issues are,

  1. When I have it connected to my iPhone I constantly get a notice that it's an unsecured connection
  2. If I connect wifi using the MR1100 via my laptop or iPhone, Norton VPN will not connect. As I flick from my NBN to the router Norton VPN is auto disconnected.
  3. When I try to update the firmware via file (https://www.netgear.com/support/product/mr1100/#download) I get error that the file is not compatible with my MR1100 Nighthawk M1 mobile router.
If I click on the 'check for update' option it just sits there and nothing happens for ages.

I'm at a loss as to what to do here.

Is it because it has the most up to date firmware? If this is the case why does it show as an unsecured network?

Before I give this modem the boot I thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas.

Thanks

Kate

  • Looks like your device is on v12.06.11.00 already, which is the same version as the current netgear download for that model, therefore it can not upgrade because the firmware versions are the same. This is an older hotspot model and I can only assume the firmware support for this product has ended, unless there is some vulnerability that might come up, I doubt there will be more FW updates that will be provided for this model.

Have you tried factory resetting the device and start the setup fresh? If you're saying it was a company device, there might some settings there that is causing your issues. I would factory reset it and set it up again and see if that fixes your problem

Hello, yes I did a factory reset. I’d say the fact that it’s an older model is the problem 😞
