MR6500 Connection Issues

I have a the MR6500 with the common issue. The device is connected to the cell network and some devices have an internet connection. Others show connection to the hotspot but no internet connection. This failure happens daily and requires hotspot restarts at least once a day. Once the device is restarted everything usually works great until it doesn't.

Firmware is up to date. AC-powered with no battery.

  • What firmware do you have? Need NTXG65_12.01.48.00 or later. If you do not have this Firmware, you could have many issues, overheating, disconnects, slow download and upload speeds, WIFI connections issues etc.:

Are you using Netgear MR6500 alone or with another Router. If alone make sure to make WIFI connection set to long. But even so your distance to hotspot is not very far if you do not have line of site to hotspot.

What WIFI Band are you using? WIFI 5G is default but older devices need 2.4G. If you are using 6G not many devices can use it yet. Try 2.4G + 5G and connect to which ever one your device see's best. You will get best performance with 5G.

    Hope something here helps

Thanks for the reply. As of this post it was up to date, but I’ll have to check the version when I get home. After a daily restart the device usually works perfectly as it should.

I’m using it alone, but range hasn’t ever seemed to be an issue in my house.

I’m using both 2.4 and 5. The devices that require 2.4 are connected to that side. The devices that I usually see problems with are connected to the 5 ghz side. Cell phones are the worst offenders. Others have been certain smart TVs and a WiFi bridge. Apple TVs almost never give me trouble. I have adjusted security settings on the phones based on other threads here with no luck.

When you say house how many SqFt. are we talking?

Just remember 2.4G has more range and more interference from other devices, also slowest connection.

5G is best connection but shorter range so even if you think you have good connection you may not.

For the home you should have the M6 Pro and a good Router like an Asus RT-AX58U or RT-AX82U or better.

Just remember that M6 Pro WIFI distance is limited. It is a portable hotspot which is good for cars, trucks, RV camping, Hotels rooms and smaller area's not to be used as whole house system's by themselves, unless your home is under 500 SqFt.

If the devices you are using are within 15-20 ft. they should work fine on M6 Pro by itself, but if going through walls or multistoried you need a whole house Router with 2500-3000SqFt. of broadcast abilities or maybe even a mesh system.

        Hope this helps.
