Nighthawk M1100 Telstra Remote Desktop Connection

I have the M1 Nighthawk from Telstra and have set up port forwarding for RDC

I have arranged for the Fixed Dynamic IP from Telstra

However I can't seem to get it to connect

Any help would be most appreciated

  • Hi Lasaa,

The IP address displayed under settings->network is the WAN IP address.  This is the address Telstra is assigning you.  You need to ask Telstra to provision telstra.extranet on your account.  Once that is done you then need to create an APN profile under Other->Cellular with telstra.extranet APN.  You may want to check this.

  • What sort of error message do you get? And are you sure your IP is a public one? Telstra generally give out private IP for most mobile broadband. If you type "what is my ip" into google does it match the IPv4 IP in the M1 settings>network>IPV4 number?

      Thanks for answering

The IP is public and does not match the IP under settings>network in the modem

It is a fixed dynamic IP

        Hi Lasaa

Fixed dynamic are exclusive terms when it comes to IP . Its one or the other, can't be both. The fact that your public IP and your modem IP do not match implies that Telstra is using consumer grade NAT which means your modem IP is private, something like 10.xxx.xxx.xxx(This is basically called a double NAT, as your modem is providing a NAT solution and Telstra also is another layer of NAT which you can't forward ports over ). This means your IP is not visible to the internet which why you are having issues forwarding ports.

Telstra do provide public IPs via business accounts , and charge extra, you would have to sort that out with them.

Another way around this is to use a VPN to forward your ports, make sure to check if you choose a VPN that they support port forwarding
