Nighthawk M3 and Quest 3 stuttering

The purpose: I want to connect my ASUS ROG Ally to my Quest 3 via the NightHawk M3 (MH3150) to play PC SteamVR games and have large screen experience watching videos while in hospital.

The problem: Around every second or so, I get usage spikes, between 4 to 6 spikes where the latency goes from 36ms to 58ms during spikes.  In between spikes, the picture and sound is perfect. When the spikes are happening, the picture and sound stutters.  This happens both on my Ally and on my base machine.

While on my main/home router, which is also wifi 6, I have no stuttering problems whatsoever, with either the ally or my base machine.

Has anyone else had this problem and/or has solved said problem?

Many Thanks in advance

  • Probably because you're on a mobile hotspot. They can have variable latency which impacts your game play big time.

You might check as most hospitals have a "guest network" option for visitors/patients.

The hospital hotspot is not good and expensive, also not too safe. The hotspot is like £5 a day, whereas a unlimited data sim is £20 a month.

If that's true about the variable latency, which it looks like it is, then this NightHawk M3 is useless to me. I have tried reducing the bit rate and even down at 4Mbps and it still happens.

thats the problem with cellular connections, sadly.

otherwise 5g home internet would be booming but the latency causes issues for some tasks. Gaming, latency is key
