MR6110 Ethernet Port Drops After Firmware v43 Update (Wi-Fi Unaffected)
Detailed Description
After the latest firmware update (verMajor 43), the Ethernet port on my MR6110 no longer functions reliably. Devices connect for a few minutes, then drop, and the link cycles between connected and disconnected.
I expected the Ethernet port to provide a stable connection (as it did before this update). Instead, it repeatedly drops out, even when using a clean run and a known-good gigabit switch.
Steps to Reproduce
- Connect MR6110 via Ethernet to a TP-Link SG105 gigabit switch (or directly to a laptop).
- Device (laptop, Roku, etc.) initially connects and gets an IP.
- Within 2–5 minutes, the Ethernet link drops.
- Device attempts to reconnect, link reestablishes briefly, then drops again.
Expected vs. Actual Behavior
- Expected: Stable Ethernet connection at 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps, as before the update.
- Actual: Ethernet port drops repeatedly. Wi-Fi continues to work fine.
Environment Details
- Device Model: Netgear Nighthawk MR6110 (AT&T variant)
- Firmware Version: v43 ("verMajor": 43 in model.json)
- Connection Type: LTE B14 + Band 2 CA
- Signal Quality: RSRP –86 dBm, SINR 16 dB
- Downstream Equipment: TP-Link SG105 (gigabit switch), Linksys E5350 (Fast Ethernet switch), Windows 10/11 laptops, Roku
Error Messages and Logs
No on-screen error messages, only Ethernet link drops.
From model.json:
"ethernetSpeed": "100M", "ethernetDrvEnable": true, "profileList": [ { "id": "1", "ethena": "On", "ethspeed": "1000Base-T" }, { "id": "2", "ethena": "On", "ethspeed": "2.5GBase-T" } ]
Indicates the hardware supports 100M/1000M/2.5G, but currently only negotiates 100M and drops regardless of setting.
Frequency and Timing
- Issue occurs every time Ethernet is used.
- Started immediately after firmware v43 update.
- Ethernet was stable on prior firmware.
Troubleshooting Steps Taken
- Forced MR6110 Ethernet to 100BASE-TX.
- Forced MR6110 Ethernet to 1000BASE-T.
- Tested direct laptop connections (short patch cable).
- Tested with TP-Link SG105 switch.
- Tested with Linksys E5350 switch.
- Restarted devices and MR6110.
- All result in the same drop behavior.
Additional Context
- Wi-Fi performance remains normal (stable at 50–120 Mbps).
- The issue affects all downstream devices, not just one.
- Multiple users online are reporting similar Ethernet failures post-update (Reddit, Netgear forums).
