Nighthawk MR6150 in IP Passthrough with DHCP disabled not working

When I disable the DHCP and use the nighthawk in Bridge mode, my router wont get an IP. Is this normal? When DHCP is enabled and bridge mode is activated everything works but I am not able to get port forwarding or anything on my router to function as it should. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Well, if you disable DHCP, I think that basically disables traffic to the Ethernet port. I have IP Passthrough, but have DHCP enabled, because I still want to be able to configure the Nighthawk via web.

Your question seems to be related to port forwarding. Unless you have static IP from your carrier, which you have not specified, I would presume you are getting CGNAT, as with 99% of cellular home internet users, where things like WAN<> LAN port forwarding does not work. You will need either a cellular plan that provides you with a static IP, or use a VPN that provides you one.

Yes you are right I realized earlier today that I have a non static IP CGNAT. What VPN do you recommend?

I have not subscribed to any VPN that provides a static IP, so I can not really recommend one over another. But NordVPN seems to be a household name, you might want to check them out.
