Please help me understand ethernet offloading on AT&T Nighthawk M6 Pro

So you know what I'm trying to do, I'm a streamer and need fastest DL/UL otherwise my show will look like trash if I'm chugging along.

I already have hooked up ethernet directly to the box, but I'm confused about the offloading. From what I could gather if I choose ethernet offloading then I would plug the charging micro usb into the charging port on the box and plug that cord into a USB port on my laptop? Vs. using an ethernet cable? If I'm even correct, is this better than plugging ethernet cable in?

I want the fastest, most reliable set up possible. This is a stationary box at home, not used in a portable fashion yet fyi.

  • Data offloading is where you have both a dedicated connection (for example cable modem or fibre ont) and the hotspot.

You can set the hotspot so it uses the dedicated ISP connection instead of its cellular connection (offloading). It isn't necessarily speed anything up. that'd be more along the line of load balancing.

Thank you very much. Great explanation. What about using the ethernet port? Beneficial?

Also I'm noticing both the 5g and 2g bands hang like crazy. Like just as bad as crappy Motel 6 wifi. No point in having the unit if it's this bad.

Does it matter if I use dedicated 5g band vs mixed 2.4/5?

What actual speeds do you get from the hotspot?

usually the bottleneck is the cellular speed in your area
