Have you tried setting the xbox network settings to automatic including setting the xbox DNS to automatic (under advanced settings)and also DHCP client.
In the modem under settings > router setup >DNS mode set to manual if you don't want to use Telstra DNS, and DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and under alternate DNS server 8.8.4.4 (these are googles DNS server addresses).
If you are getting NAT errors after that it is because Telstra use consumer grade NAT on mobile connections and not much you can do about it unless you have a business grade connection that provides a public IP.

Thank you for your help. I have tried that previously. It works with a wired connection - will just have to stick with that. PS4 works perfectly wirelessly though.

If it is only happening with the Wifi on the xbox. Then there is no need to make any changes to the modem. I'd delete the xbox wifi connection it currently uses to connect to the M1 and recreate it, make sure to set the xbox to DHCP client and everything to automatic. Also keep in mind that the M1 will turn off its wifi after a few minutes by default , so may be a issue for the xbox. That would mean it works initially though then stopped working.

If the wifi turns off by default after a few minutes how do you change that ?
