Turn off Multicasting per port on GS752TPP?
Can you turn off multicasting per port on this switch? If so, how? Thank you

Hello shultzee13,
And welcome to the NETGEAR Community! 🙂
For your inquiry, it will depend on what version of switch is your GS752TPP. If its a newer version you maybe able to disable multicast per port. You will see the option under Switching>>Multicast>>IGMP Snooping>>IGMP Snooping interface configuration. From disabling this, the port will not send IGMP requests to the network. For older versions, you cannot disable Multicast per port but per general or as a whole by disabling IGMP snooping.
Have a lovely day,

Appears we have lot of misunderstandings here.
Multicast is a technology designed to save bandwidth. It will be in typically used to transmit data packets from one host to multiple hosts.
To allow routers and switches to distribute multicasts over one or multiple port(s), they use a protocol called Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP). Hosts send one IGMP join message to get a multicast stream. When a switch or router receives an IGMPJoin message on one of its interfaces, it knows that there are hosts on it are interested in joining a multicast stream and sends them to it.
In early Switches, forwarded multicast traffic to all ports, even if only one host must receive this. IGMP snooping is designed to multicast traffic to the requesting host(s).
When IGMP snooping is enabled, the switch detects the IGMP messages sent between the IPv4 router and the multicast hosts connected to the interfaces be exchanged. A table is then maintained that routes IPv4 multicast traffic to the ports that need to receive it.
Said this: Disabling IGMP Snooping on port does -not- disable and block Multicast.
