I am trying to connect my switch to my network. I have downloaded the insight app and registered my switch. It does not show up in the connected devices on my router and i can't ping the switch using the ip address of 192.168.0.239 the mac address of the switch does not show up in the router either.

Same when cold booting (power off-on) the switch while connected to the R8000 LAN port?
Keep in mind the default LAN IP subnet is 192.168.1.x/24 (mask 255.255.255.0) where the R8000 does assign an address from the pool. Said this, the default IP address 192.168.0.239/24 is no longer available then, and it's outside of the default LAN subnet, so it won't be reachable from a system on the default subnet.
The Insight app does only a discovery, and is in general able to find the GS308E. Alternate utility - because most of the Plus switches don't bring a discovery mechanism like UPnP SSDP - would be the NETGEAR Switch Discovery Tool (NSDT) available for most Linux derivates, Windows, and Apple MacOS.
