FS726T not discovered with Smart Center or anything else
As per headline, I have recently bought a FS726T switch so I could build a better network but no matter what I try I can't connect to it in any way. I have tried resetting it to factory default and ...

Please try to understand these switch designs are old, very old. Firmware and notes date back from 2005, so the FS716Tv1 is an almost two decade old device.
FS726T Firmware Version 1.0.2 (0323)
FS726T Firmware Version 1.0.2 (0323)
Note: This FS726T firmware version (or any earlier version) must be upgraded using the Smartwizard Discovery utility, version 2.05.03 or earlier. After this upgrade, any version of Smartwizard Discovery utility can be used.
Fixes
1. Switch will not retain static IP after reboot.
2. Smartwizard Discovery Utility 2.05.05 cannot upgrade firmware.Installation Instructions
- Download the new firmware to a convenient place on your local system (e.g., C:\downloads\).
- Start Smartwizard Discovery utility, (included on the CD that came with your Smart Switch). If it is not installed, do so now, before continuing.
- In Smartwizard Discovery window, click Discover to find your Smart Switch. The switch will be listed in the device list table once found. (Note: Smartwizard Discovery uses broadcast packets to find Smart Switches, which means it can only find Smart Switches in the same routing domain.)
- Highlight the Smart Switch to upgrade and click Firmware Upgrade.
- Follow the screen prompts to complete the upgrade. Smartwizard Discovery will report a successful completion at the end.

There are two different versions. depending on the hardware version and the installed firmware, you might have to use Smart Wizard Utility

I've just downloaded that and installed it but it doesn't find anything.
I've even tried n-map and that doesn't find it either đ
How can I find out the hardware version?

I never use any utility to discover or configure a networking switch. Why would I pollute my PC with anything like that? Besides, such a utility for your switch is probably no longer supported.
Almost all switches, and it seems that yours is one of them, come with a web interface.
To start configuring your switch using its web interface, follow this pretty much standard procedure described below. I works for just any âmanagedâ switch, not matter what company made it.
- Disconnect the switch from everything.
- Do the factory reset procedure.
- Find out the switchâs default IP address in its manual. For NETGEAR, it is most likely 192.168.0.239.
- Find out the switchâs default login. Again, check the manual.
- Set up your PC with a static address in the switchâs default subnet. Say, IP 192.168.0.66, Mask 255.255.255.0, Gateway/DNS IP 192.168.0.1.
- Connect your PC to the switch.
- Access your switch with your Internet browser, say http:// 192.168.0.239, and log in with the default credentials.
- After login, set up the switch with a static IP address of your target network. Do not rely on DHCP for the switchâs IP address! You always want to be sure of the switchâs IP address and be able to access it even if your DHCP server is not accessible.
- Thatâs it!

Please try to understand that I have actually said that myself, although in a very indirect way. Do not pollute your PC with those very old utilities that make you install already obsolete and unsecure software. In most cases, you can access those switches using their web interfaces.

Start with the label printed and hopefully still visible on the device, e.g. on the lower side, or on the back.
The FS726T exists in two versions:
- FS726T (v1)
- FS726T (v2)

Lucky you, or not. There are reasons - not many, but there are. Certain older devices and firmware versions might need the help from some legacy utilities, being for discovery, being for updating boot loaders, being for uploading certain major firmware steps.
Then, certain switches can be configured using certain legacy utilities -only- ... hard to believe for gen z there might be devices without Web UIs for example.
A good reason for listening to some might become obvious when one does read eg. interesting docs like firmware release notes (available in multiple generations). For example, https://www.netgear.com/support/product/FS726T#download also showing "Previous Versions" does contain some magic insight like FS726T Firmware Version 2.0.1_14 for example
"Note: This firmware adds support of the new Smart Control Center to the switch.2 ...understand that all older firmware might require that legacy "Smart Wizard Utility" for certain basic configuration, for example before yon can even use the Web UI. This applies to firmware 1.0.2 0323 to 2.0.1-09.
Said that - because people ignore advise, docs and release notes - to many of these devices end inoperable or on the garbage.

Only upgrade to this firmware if you have downloaded and installed the Smart Control Center. The Smart Control Center software can be downloaded here. The upgrade process requires the use of the Smart Control Center software. Once the switch has been upgraded to this firmware, it can only be discovered and managed by the Smart Control Center and can no longer be discovered nor managed by the Smartwizard Discovery Utiltiy.
===
Note. Before, the "Smart Wizard Utility" had to be used.
===
Upgrade Instructions:
Warning: Improper upgrade procedure may cause the device to become inoperable and it will need to be replaced..
- Upgrade boot code "FS726T_BootCode_SCC.hex" by SmartWizard.
- Once upgrade complete, power cycle switch. At this moment, system will boot up at boot code mode automatically.
- Now the unit should be able to discover by SmartControlCeneter and will not be discovered by SmartWizard anymore.
- Upgrade " FS726T_V2.0.1_14.bin" by SmartContolCenter.

Would not wonder if this is a dead unit due to ignorance.
Enough said.

Well, I finally got it.
Thanks for suggesting Smartwizard Discovery, that's the one that finally did discover the switch and it identifies as FS726T (no firmware)
So now I'm of to find the appropriate firmware and hopefully it works after that.
Thank you all that tried to help and got me on the right path đđFS726T
