GS728TPv2 is it End of Life?
We have a number of GS728TPv2 switches - can anyone confirm that these are now End of Life and should be removed? We have fairly strict cyber insurance which states that we need to replace devices when they no longer get security updates.
From what I can tell the V2 was released in 2018.
These were purchased and installed in 2022. (Before I worked here!)
The Netgear EoL list shows that they went EoL 1st Dec 2022.
Is that correct? All our other switches are updated and supported for 5 years beyond the End of Sale Date. This appears that they were sold in 2022 but then just went EoL straight after the End of Sale Date.
It seems that they literally had a life of about 3 months, which seems ridiculous.

Just because a switch maybe EoL, doesn't mean you still can't use it.
We can't change how NG handles there products. Up to you to use it or not.

I'm struggling to determine if it is genuinely EoL.
We define EoL as when the product no longer gets security updates.
Netgear show the GS728TPv2 as EoL in 2022, yet they were still selling it then. So is there EoL actually just End of Sales?
Most manufacturers that we work with (we don't have a huge amount of Netgear products) give 5 years between End of Sale and End of Life.
If it is no longer getting secuirty updates, then according to our cyber insurance we can't continue to use them, so they will need to be replaced.
I've looked at the latest firmware and the date on the page is from October 2024 - but that might be that they updated some information on the page at that point.

I would take what is on the support site as what NG deems as EoL:
https://www.netgear.com/support/product/gs728tpv2/
Just because some retailers maybe still selling it doesn't mean its not EoL, just may mean that retailers are trying to get rid of there inventory or stock of this model switch. That's up to them to continue to sell or not.
If that's what your advised to do then you'll need to effect that. There is a v3 version that is NOT EoL. So you could just update to the v3 version.
I tend to download the FW file and look at the date on the FW file to confirm dates vs posted dates on the download site.
