MTU Settings on Netgear Switch

I can't seem to find what the MTU settings are on each port on this switch?

We have 2 of them and I'm not sure if it's set to 1500 or 9000, I need to really check this.

Any ideas where this is at?

  • As these are pure L2 switches: What would you expect a L2 switch would do with a large frame to be sent to a port with a lower MTU? It won't and can't participate in the PMTUD process! The PMTUD is a functionality working between L3 devices like IPv4 hosts/routers, IPv6 hosts/routers, ...  nothing a L2 switch can do - except that it would silently drop the frames larger than what is configured on a port. I'd strongly suggest changing MTU only on L3 devices, e.g. routers.

Simply test between the two neigbouring IP hosts, as lined out e.g. https://blah.cloud/hardware/test-jumbo-frames-working/

It's interesting Netgear has decided not to add the MAX MTU these switch models are supporting, neither in the data sheet nor in the user manual. In the newer model incarnations, they have added this information in the Port Status:
