Netgear Smart switches- Local LAN access vs Remote access needs clarification

I'm trying to understand the extent of this Local LAN access only option vs the Insight Remote Cloud access:

When you say Local LAN does it mean I can literally ONLY access the switch from the same subnet?  Does this mean if I have a site-2-site VPN tunnel, your switch will recognize traffic from the other side of the tunnel and reject my request to access it?  Does this also mean that even if I create a forwarder from the outside to the switch, it will reject the request from the WAN?  Or is this Insight stuff just short for "We're taking all the guess work out for you.  You don't need to worry about port-mapping, forwarders, etc, we'll just make it accessible for you. . . . .for a fee"?

I really just need to understand that portion.  I've read a few discussions but I cannot pinpoint the limitations Netgear has placed.  If I cannot get to my switches thru my VPN tunnel then it's a wrap for Netgear.  It's really that simple for me.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks.

There are no such limitations in place for "local" access on the IP manageable switches in general. As long as you can manage some IP access, you can talk to the router Web UI, SNMP, whatever.

One minor exception is a bug introducing a non-intended restriction on some Plus (GSxxxE) where the access does not work on shorter than standard MTUs. That's all. This does not apply to the Smart Managed Pro and Cloud managed or any Managed Switch class model

Thanks for the clarification.  Our 1st switch is being pushed out with the new Firmware, today, so we are hopeful all is as we expect.  I plan to update any issues--or successes--specifically regarding remote access, here.
