VLAN help -> ORBI with a Switch
Hello all....thank you in advance. I'm trying to set up 4 VLANs. SETUP: I have an ISP modem connected to an RBR10 mesh system with a GS308E 8 port switch. The RBR10s only have 1 output/port...
Netgear does already offer the Orbi Pro systems. Almost legacy in WiFi 5 (SXK6x/SXR60/SXS60), and newer the WiFi 6 (tri-band SXK8x/SXR80/SXS80, dual-band SXK5x/SXR50/SXS50 and the SXK3x/SXR30/SXS30) - all are allowing to configure a wireless multi-VLAN backhaul, with the essential router, IP subnet infrastructure including DHCP services, ...) and offering the option for adding VLAN capable switches over a wired trunk. I expect to see the first WiFi 7 based systems in the year 2024.
Best investment - mid or long term - is certainly a complete cabling through the house. Ideally two or more links from a central installation point to each room.
Sure, the GS308E can be configured accordingly as a VLAN capable switch. the RBR10 - or any currently available router, including the latest Orbi Mesh don't offer what you are looking for.
Thank you for the quick, thorough response. In the absence of wiring the house, it sounds like the Orbi pro might be a good option. All the capabilities of the Home options but with VLAN and multiple SSID capabilities.
The goal is security, control and ease of use. The Orbi Pro provides multiple SSID options and VLAN setup so that IoT, Kids devices, work devices etc can all be on their own 'network'.
What would be the Cons going to the Pro?
