Thank you for the information. This helped clarify. I managed to get it partially working and think I know the reason why it was not working in the first place. However would be great for some confirmation.
To get inter vlan working I gave up on the 192.168.101.x range and created a third 192.168.102.x range. I set this up as before and it all worked like a dream. The only thing I did not have was internet access to the 192.168.102.x range.
My conclusion is that as the router gateway to the internet is at 192.168.101.1 I think this IP is causing of original inter vlan problem with the vlan at 192.168.101.1 as well as the router. I suspect this is also stopping internet access to vlan 192.168.102.x.
2 questions:
1. If I change the router to IP 192.168.101.254 I believe this would fix the original problem andalso open up internet access to 192.168.102.x
2. Or I could change the vLAN routing to use 192.168.101.254 instead
Before I start playing would be grateful for confirmation.
