VLAN-tagged broadband connection

Hi,

I have a new ISP that uses VLAN tagging but this is not supported by Google Nest Wifi.

In order for the Nest Wifi to work I need to add a switch to my network separate managed network switch and therefore I bought the GS305E so I could use the PPPoE protocol to connect the Nest router directly to the fiberglas modem.

My ISP told me to use VLAN: 6, I tried several options within the GS305E menu but I cannot manage.

Do any of you have experience with this ?

If I'm well informed I can connect the GS305E directly wit the fiberglas modem (VLAN6 port) and with another port from the GS305E to the WAN port of the nest......

  • Try an alternate port but #1 ... one which is only VLAN 7, and make one tagged for the WAN port.

First, the Smart Managed Plus switches are a little bit waek to expose to the wild Internet because of the limited security capabilities.

Is the aim just Internet VLAN - no VoIP, no IPTV?

    • Create the VLAN 6.
    • Configure one port - for the WAN/Fiber - to hold only VLAN 6 [T]agged.
    • Configure another port - for the router WAN/Internet port - to hold onl VLAN 6 [U]ntagged, PVID 6

      Hi Schmaku,

Thanks for the feedback, the aim just Internet VLAN.

I'm a noob with this... sorry.

There are 5 ports and now I have the next setting.

VLAN ID 1 port member 1

      VLAN ID 6 port member 1 2 3 4 5

      VLAN ID 1 - port 1 U - other ports empty

      VLAN ID 6 - port 1 T - other ports U

      PVID config - port 1 - 1

PVID config - all other ports - 6

I have used a static ip address in the range of the Nest router 192.168.86.50

      Port 1 goes to fibermodem

Port 2 goes to WAN Nest from LAN Nest to port 3

Port 4 goes to another netger  switch
