Built-in Cable Tester
I'm trying to better understand how the "Cable Tester" tool within the web admin works.
Can one run the tests while computers and other switches are plugged into the switch inquestion? Unless you plug the ends of one cable into two different ports, I couldn't see how else this would work, but wanted to confirm.

Give it a try. Unless you plug a very short cable (below about 2 meters), it will report an open cable, and the distance to the fault is about the cable length.
It's a refection measurement - no loopback or the like - so nothing must be plugged or active to the far end. See eg. port #2 here:
