GS728TPP vs GS310TP performance comparison

One of the guys on my team asked for a couple of GS728TPP (24-port)  switches for some high bitrate video testing. Turns out he doesn't need anywhere close to that number of ports, or any of the advanced features of that switch. He just had good experience with it, and poor experience with cheap Gigabit Ethernet Switches from other manufacturers. Is there any reason to expect the GS310TP (8-port) to have appriciably reduced performance for its 8 ports than connecting 8 of the 24 ports on the GS728TPP? There's no need to consider a future need for more ports or any of the additional features on the GS728PP. We just need to move bits fast and reliably.

    bob_mackin,

    Welcome to our community! :)

GS728TPP is already EOL and it has a POE budget of 384w(up to 720w with EPS) GS310TP is one of our newer models. It is only recommended if your network requires an additional POE budget for your POE devices. There is a GS728TP(also EOL) that has the same hardware component but has a lower POE budget.

I don't think you will have reduced performance when in terms of using the GS310TP because this is also running on a Gigabit.
