What, exactly, are you connecting to what, exactly? Some port on the
GS108 to _what_, exactly?

Come back 24 hours later, and see how well it's working.
I'm guessing, but it sounds as if you have a bunch of devices which
expect to use DHCP to get their IP parameters, and you're trying to use
them in a network which lacks a DHCP server.
Knowing nothing, I'd guess that there's some kind of router (which
includes a DHCP server) behind your "Wall".
You can either configure these devices with static IP parameters
(address, subnet mask, gateway, ...) or you can add a DHCP server to
your "offline network". The easiest thing might be to add some old
router(which includes a DHCP server), and leave its WAN/Internet port
unconnected.
