MS108UP and 802.1Q tags

I will be setting up a network for a friend who wants an isolated guest Wi-Fi network using 4 WAPs since his apartment has a big steel column in the middle of it.

Since we want to isolate it, we want to create a dedicated VLAN and SSID for this network, which the WAPs (Netgear WAX630e) support.

To power his WAPs (and make cable management a little easier) I am using a POE++ switch (Netgear MS108UP or MS108EUP) to inject power and provide.

The question I have is if the WAPs send frames with 802.1q tags and I use the MS108UP (the unmanaged switch), what will happen?

These are not unmanaged switched in this aspect. The VLAN(s) must be defined before, the port must be defined to carry [T]agged frames for specific VLANid(s), and defined for the VLAN where untagged will be associated to [U]ntagged and PVID.

Said that, there must be a router able to deal with the additional VLANs and the additional IP subnets and to provide DHCP services.

Welcome to the wonderful world of 802.1q VLAN aware networks.
