Port 1 causing switch to not communicate?

Ok so I recently got better internet at my house and now actually trying to hook up connections using a switch.  I can plug directly into my router and things are fine.  I plug switch in and connect to switch and nothing.  I have rebooted everything a few times and no luck.  I did get the switch used and was told port 1 doesn't work.  No worries don't need all 24 ports.  However port 1 light is orange 10/100 even with nothing plugged into it.  And one of the reboots I decided to plugged my laptop into port 3 right next to it and port 1 didn't light up and my laptop worked.  So, it is like that single port that is saying it is on at 10/100 with nothing plugged into is screwing up the passing of traffic.

My laptop and uplink is green - 1G connect.  Any advice?  At this point I think I bought a paperweight.  I did look at the port and physically the port looks fine.

What model # is the switch?

Swap LAN cables with known working cables. CAT6 is recommended.

This is a used switch? If it was known that Port 1 was bad then would be a use as is unit with faulty ports.

Try a reset on the switch if there is a reset button. If not, then check all the other ports to make sure those all work. Use ports as needed. Maybe put a over over Port 1 or mark it has bad.

Can get good used or new working ones online if you feel you have a need to just replace it.

I have checked cables and ports.  Plug into the router directly fine.  Plug into the switch and no good.

This is a used switch and knew port 1 was bad but didn't know port 1  would seem to cause the whole switch to not pass traffic

no reset on switch.  I have used several ports and all same results.

Ok. Seems like unit is bad all around. Find you another.

I've found good used units on shopgoodwill. Might find something newish on amazon.
