Switch impacting Wifi
Hello, I have a GS116 unmanaged switch that connects to my house. As of late when this switch is connected it somehow brings my house’s entire wifi network down. I have an XB7 gateway from Shaw cable. When I disconnect the switch from the network the wifi starts working again. Not sure what is wrong, but up until a few months ago no issues. I have replaced the modem/router several times and this temporarily fixes the problem but then it returns. Hoping someone may be able to help me.

I also have a netgear router on the switch for my security system N300. Could that cause impact ?
Remove the NG wifi router from the mix then leave the GS switch connected. Switches won't impact WiFi signals.
- When I removed the NG300 as you mentioned wifi started working again. That being said this router still needs to be connected to my gateway wifi modem otherwise cameras won’t work. When I connected directly to gateway modem the wifi in the house stopped working again. Could their be an issue with the NG router?

It certainly could.
What is it? N300 just tells us that it is probably some ancient Netgear router from a decade or so ago. N300 is one of the oldest wifi standards going and has long been surpassed by newer generations.
Is the Netgear device connected to the switch or the gateway, whatever that is?
The Netgear device should also be put into access point mode to avoid clashes with the gateway.

- Hi, you’re right it is ancient. Roger’s in Canada is using more than 10 year old technology for their security systems. Even I bought newer hardware I don’t believe their backend system would support it. In theory the tech said the XB7 should be able to support the wireless cameras but their back end software does not permit. In both situations I have tried connecting then NG router to the switch and gateway and the wifi fails both the times. I can I still put the NG router in AP modem if the cameras are fed wirelessly as opposed to hardwired? Product code for the NG router is : WNR2000v5. Thank you!
