FVS318N VLAN's routing

Hi all,

I'm trying to make the following configuration working:

internet----7800VDOX----FVS318N----GS748T

I have the following configured:

FVS318N
========
VLAN1(default): p4,p5,p6,p7,p8
VLAN10: p1,p7,p8
VLAN20: p2,p7,p8
VLAN30: p3,p7,p8

p1: default VLAN=VLAN10
p2: default VLAN=VLAN20
p3: default VLAN=VLAN30
p4-p8: default VLAN=VLAN1

p7: trunk to managed switch GS748T
p8: trunk to Billion router/internetGW 7800VDOX

VLAN1: 192.168.0.0/24, IP=192.168.0.254 (port 8), DNS=192.168.0.1
VLAN10: 192.168.10.0/24, IP=192.168.10.1, DNS=192.168.0.1, DHCP: 192.168.10.2-99
VLAN20: 192.168.20.0/24, IP=192.168.20.1, DNS=192.168.0.1, DHCP: 192.168.20.2-99
VLAN30: 192.168.30.0/24, IP=192.168.30.1, DNS=192.168.0.1, DHCP: 192.168.30.2-99

The PC's on each of the VLAN's have their default GW set to coresponding IP of the
VLAN they belong to, ie 192.168.10.1, 192.168.20.1 and 192.168.30.1.

There is no firewall or content filtering enabled on the FVS318N nor I can find anything
on FVS318N and 7800VDOX logs suggesting dropped packets.

7800VDOX
=========
Has single default VLAN, subnet 192.168.0.0/24 and IP of 192.168.0.1. I have also created
3 static routes for each of the VLAN's all pointing to 192.168.0.254, the default VLAN of
the FVS318N which is part of the same subnet as 7800VDOX.

GS748T
=======
This is basically of no significance atm, mentioning here just for complitenes of the
setup. I have configured the same VLAN's as on GS748T for range of ports and the link
between 7800VDOX and GS748T is working fine, no issues here. With or without GS748T the
problem mentioned below still persists.

The problem
============
Now, I can ping the 7800VDOX (192.168.0.1) from any PC on any of the VLAN's and the other way
around is also true, I can ping any PC from the 7800VDOX router as well. The DNS resolution is
working as well so I can get the public IP's for yahoo, google etc. What is not working is the
internet access and I'm not able to ping yahoo, google etc. Obviously either I'm missing something
and some additional setup (maybe routing) needs to be done or the configuration I'm trying to setup
is practicaly impossible.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions on this one.

Thanks

  • Ok, just needed to connect the cable from 7800VDOX into the WAN port of FVS318N instead of port 8 (of course), my bad ... All working now as intended. Of course not much point putting FVS318N in between 2 gigabit devices since it only supports 10/100Mb/s but at least the setup is working.
