VPNFilter Security Vulnerability - FVS318N affect

I see that the FVS318N is among the many Netgear devices affected by the "VPNFilter" malware.

Since the FVS firewalls are out of support (and no longer receiving firmware updates), can Netgear comment further or suggest any workarounds for this? Is it just the FVS318N that is affected? Is disabling Remote Management on the WAN enough to prevent a WAN-side attack?

    Hi train_wreck,

I inquired your concern to the higher tier of NETGEAR Support and just got a feedback.  As per the higher tier of NETGEAR Support, there is really no fix given that the exploit is unknown. With the FVS318N, since it is already EOL End-of-Life) and no new firmware version that will be released anymore, the precautions mentioned are the only methods to help prevent an attack.

At this time the units listed in the article here are the only units we are aware of that can be infected, but if ever you happened to have another model of NETGEAR router, you should still follow the precautions on those devices.

There is a tool to test if a router is infected, you might find this useful: http://www.symantec.com/filtercheck/

    Regards,
