Why does the fvs318 firewall only pass 5gbps signal from a 30gbps signal line?
OK, I have setup a connection through a local cable ISP @30gbps and bypassing the built in wireless function in an Arris 860 modem. Unfortunately the ISP is in control of the Arris settings with that I requested the wireless function to be disabled so that no body enter my network through a back door so to speak. Also added a E1200 wireles 300 n 4 port router and single connection to a FVS318 Firewall router with the E1200 & FSV318 host settings changed. Meaning for example the Arris is for 192.168.3.1 and the E1200 would be something like 192.168.2.1 and FVS 318 would be 192.168.1.1 this way no router confusion and no router traffic collisions. With a dynamic ip from the isp. However, after configuring and connecting everything my speed throughput is great through the Arris= 30 for 30 and the same for the E1200 = 30 for 30. But after connecting some devices through the FVD318 firewall device the throughput speed was 5.25 gbps from a 30gbps line signal source. I could not find anything in the firewall router setup to change the throughput speed or how to increase or limit the speed functions. Please note the ethernet connection speeds are at 100mhz during the tests. Wireless connections are normal or no problems as of yet. My question is: has any body had this or a similar issue and if so: how did they fix the problem? This would be other than swapping out the FVS318 Firewall with another device.

Hello danny_lang1,
Welcome to the community!
The FVS318 can only handle up to 11.5 Mbps WAN-LAN throughput, since your FVS318 can only give you about 5Mbps I suggest updating the firmware to the latest version (for FVS318v3). Check the internet speed from the router after the firmware update, you should get atleast close to 11 Mbps. If you need to maximize you internet connection speed, you may ned to update to a higher tier router like the FVS318N or FVS336Gv3,
I hope this information helps, if you have more questions please feel free to ask.
Thanks,
- GuillermoPiquerAspirantWe have an FVS336Gv2 with the latest version of firmware (4.x), and get similar issues. We have 20/20 with ISP and only gets 20/6. Upload speed or very poor for VoIP.
We have a support case opened but ... Probably, got Sonicwall.- JohnRoNETGEAR Employee Retired
Hello GuillermoPiquer,
That's fairly low for an FVS336Gv2, do you have any firewall rules on the router? I have checked your support ticket and it is currently handled by engineering/Level 3. We'll have to wait for an update and see what is going on with your device.
I'll keep an eye on this post for updates.
Thanks,

Thanks. It's probably a firmware / ROM confict, I think, because we begun with a firmware 3.x (don't remember exactly) and with optimal trhoughtput. Then, after a penetration test detected we have to update firmware to latest version for major security. None of the firmware updates or downgrades have solved the speed issue yet. We have VoIP, some VPN tunnels with other office cities, about 40 outbound rules... And everything is bad, nobody is happy now. We get the 1 year suppoort service and begin friday with call support (before via email support same issue). The support team are very frindly, yes, but not solving anything and the stage is maddening. Bosses are asking for another device not negear.
