AX1800 WAX202 Slow LAN ports
I have the WAX202 set up in AP mode. I have CAT 6 ran to a few locations in my home with the AP at my living room TV. Any wireless connections to it are good. Anything connected to a LAN port is slow...
You have the firestick hardwired in using a usb/ethernet adapter? (as the firesticks don't have ethernet natively)
Yes, I failed to say that it's connected through a 1Gbps adapter. I may have found my answer, though. I had researched before buying the Fire Stick and found that it would download up to 1G with the adapter. I don't know where I found that info. Today I found an amazon specs page that shows the Fire Stick is 10/100. When the FS was connected via WiFi, it would buffer sometimes even though the speed test in the settings menu showed about 200Mbps. I tried the WiFi adapter and the buffering stopped and it's speed test shows a little over 300Mbps. So I'm not sure why the speed tests show that high when the FS is limited to 10/100. I had assumed it was a LAN port issue. I will find something else to plug into the access point and test it.
As I said: There are some USB OTG adapters which establish a GbE link, however the performance will be ways off from a full GbE. Lipstick on a pig, originally designed for Fast Ethernet only.
It really shouldn't cause buffering, though. A 100mbps link will be fine with streaming 4k. If you look, most 4k tv's only have 10/100mbps ports on them anyway because the higher bandwidth isn't needed, and its cheaper.
One of my 4k tv's only supports a 100mbps link and it streams fine wired or on wireless. (i prefer the wired option but have used both)
might be worth checking into what adapter you have. maybe it's got issues causing the buffering.
Just to add, my Sony TV is 10/100 and when it's connected to the AP via ethernet, it buffers. To the point I can't stream. WiFi is much better on it. The AP sits next to the TV. The AP was originally placed there to extend the WiFi to that part of the house. I have a Xfinity (newer model) gateway, but the WiFi is weak in that end of the house. I have to use that gateway because I have landline through it.
