There is no such feature like a channel redirect on any wireless AP.

With smart connect enabled, the AP does distribute a list with all SSIDs and channels active. No magic involved, plain standard 802.11k and 802.11v.
Correct country settings in place or are you probably using an US/FCC model abroad? What mobile phone are we facing here? What channels is the WAX206 active on? Which WiFi Mode is configured for the 5 GHz Band?
