Armor VPN is blocking mail

I have tons of Armor questions but I'll stick to the most important for now.
Why does the VPN block my mails on my laptop but does not on my phone. The laptop error says "the default port timed out".
If I turn off the VPN then all the mail comes back.
If there a manual or instructions somewhere that explains Netgear Armor. It has quite a bit of conflicting info in the apps.
Example: in the orbi app security & support tab it says "Armor Active". I select the tab and Armor Plus opens. it tells me Armor is protecting ## devices in my network. Below that tells me your network is protected and just below that 0 devices with Armor app installed. That makes no sense!

This is the VPN included with Armor, or a different VPN, perhaps installed on the laptop?
Netgear's Armor includes software installed on the router itself to "protect" the network and also individual Armor products that can be installed on specific devices.
