Can't download firmware update
I am using the above model# Netgear N600 wireless dualband gigabyte router since 2012. When I go to my Netgear Genie and go to Router Settings I see a message in orange at the top of screen that says "a new firmware upgrade is available, click here." When I do that the Router Login window pops up. The User is Admin and whatever password I use doesn't seem to work. The default "password" doesn't work, neither does my OpenDNS password work (which for parental controls so I guess it wouldn't work anyway), nor my "MyNetGear" password. I have no idea how to reset this particular password, whatever it is. Seems a little goofy to have 2-3 passwords for all these things but I realize there are good reasons but I would prefer a "single sign-on" but oh well. Also when I go to Internet Options it acts like I am not connected to the internet and says that it appears I am not connected, but my system tray icon for Netgear Genie displays the message "internet connected" when you hover the mouse above it. So needless to say I am confused. This all came about because I was wanting to change my Parental Controls/filtering on Netgear Genie and even thought it acts like I am changing stuff and getting the message "wait 3 minutes for all servers to update" it can be 30 minutes later and still no actual changes. What I have been doing is going thru OpenDNS and modifying the filtering there, and then using the link from there to go to Parental Controls. Maybe OpenDNS is separate and different from NetGear Genie? That seems confusing to me, so on one hand I don't know if I'm to make the changes in both places, or what, but I try to LoL and I try to keep the changes in each as similiar as possible. I do not have any kind of "paid support" on my account so I thought I would try the Community prior to a paid phone call. The bottom line is I am trying to update Parental Controls/filtering across the board. Any help in understanding what I am doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ! --Depressed in Ohio

Why don't you manually download it from download page and install it yourself? Do you have a reason to update? Something interesting on the release note? If router is working well for you, just stay put.

It is generally better to download from the support pages. Things are less likely to go wrong than doing things over wifi.
I have had firmware updates that actually killed the wifi and required some messing around via the web interface to get it back.

There seem to be two new firmware packages since yours.
