Forced to use Nighthawk app to set up new hardware and it sucks out loud

It is not required to use the NH app to setup. For routers and gateway modems, can use there web page:

Who wrote this app? Did ANYONE test it? Maddening. Wanders in circles. I finally called the support number, waited on hold, someone with an accent that suggested they were Not From Around Here answer and my call was immediately cut off. I am livid.
