Genie App Doesn't Open on Ipad

I am at the end of my rope in attempting to set parental controls on a new Netgear Modem, model C6300BD. My devices for attempting to do so are an iPad, an iPhone, or a Chromebook.

I have downloaded the Netgear Genie into the Apple products. There's no app available for Chromebook. Whenever I attempt to open the app on Apple devices, I'm put into an eternal "Please Wait" holding pattern. I'm entering the correct username and password. As a matter of fact, the Genie recognizes the name of my wifi network to which it is connected. I just can't get access.

There is no web-based interface allowing one to set the parental controls from what I can tell. I can access the Netgear modem from the website interface using my Chromebook, but when it comes to parental controls, the website only offers the opportunity to download the apps. Already done.

I need to make the parental control feature work and am deeply frustrated and annoyed that there is no simple way to make it happen.

I have deleted the app from the iPad, reloaded (with what appears to be a newer version of the app), but no resolution to the issue.

Thank you to Netgear Users worldwide who may have a solution to my problem.

    Hi @GenieDoesntWork,

Your device model number indicates that it is an ISP-provided device which has a modified firmware. This means that it may not work with the NETGEAR Genie app/program. Have you tried using another device (Android, iOS, another computer)?

Hello Dexter, thank you for the response.

I borrowed a pc and downloaded the Genie program, which worked well enough to get me started, although did prove problematic in some areas. It readily accepted my Open DNS information and allowed me to access parental notifications.

The good news is that, once the Open DNS business was added into the Genie program, I was then able to access the Netgear Modem Utility using my Chromebook browser--as if a lock had been opened on that website. The browser interface actually seems to work the best, allowing me the most options for modem settings.

I tested the parental control function and potentially troubling websites were indeed blocked.

The Genie apps on the iPad and the iPhone still not working.

Thanks again and good luck to all!

        Hi @GenieDoesntWork,

Thank you for the update. Glad to know that you got it working somehow. As mentioned, given the modified version of the firmware, it may or may not work with the Genie app on some platforms.

        Regards,
