Thank you. Comments are appreciated!
I agree that a power disruption should not cause a loss of settings. But, it did. In fact, I have since disconnected the router power and upon reconnection settings were intact.
I do not lose power often and I do have a good and reliable UPS protecting the router and modem.
Something odd did happen during that event. I lost all port settings. The 2GHz password was also lost but the 5GHz password remained intact.
At the same time, one Wi-Fi smart LED bulb in the house also lost its settings. No other problem was observed.
Perhaps rare, this is problematic. I depend on the router when I am away. It is mission critical. It would seem reasonable and prudent for NetGear to add a feature to its NightHawk App that would allow saving the settings as a backup and allowing the App to restore a backup. Currently, we are provided a feature to reboot, and a feature to update the firmware. A third feature to restore a backup would seem reasonable to add and not terribly difficult to provide.

Something you can do to help ensure the system is loaded correctly.
Manually re-load FW on to the router:

After it's up and running factory reset:

And the router and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. https://kb.netgear.com/22697/How-do-I-install-my-NETGEAR-router-using-the-router-web-interface
After it's set up again fully, save off a backup configuration to file:
Some mobile apps don't have ways to save files back to mobile devices. Some of this is do to how Apple and Android give only certain access to there file system and device storage restrictions. I presume something that NG may not have access too or may not want to get involved with. So main operation is for use with a PC or laptop for advanced configurations and saving of backup configuration files to PCs where access is less restrictive and easier to manage with the browser on the PC. However, feel free to post here about this:

If the router is mission critical, then you should get into a UPS system as mentioned by plemans for your ISP modem and the router if you feel that the system should be always up and running, even thru a power brown out.
