Netgear Genie Can't Identify Router and I can't use routerlogin.net

This has all started because I want to use the parental controls.

I downloaded the Genie app on my laptop (a windows 10 pc) and ran it....it shows I am connected to the internet, but the programm cannot find my router.

I have also tried this on my android phone with the SAME issue.

I CAN log into my router via 192.168.1.1 but i CANNOT log into it via routerlogn.net or .com.  I get the following message:  "

You are not connected to your Router’s WiFi network. To access routerlogin.net, your device must be connected to your Router’s WiFi network. Check your current connection and try again."

I have restarted the router, hard rest the router, restarted the computer, and uninstalled and reinstalled the software.  This is seriously confusing....I can connect to the internet, it sees the wireless network I'm on, but NOT my router.  What gives?

My firmware version is showing as:  DD-WRT v3.0-r28815M (01/15/16) on the web interface I can access.  But online, the product support shows a TOTALLY different labeling system...could this be it?  I'm hesitate to do a firmware upgrade when it looks so different for fear I'll brick the router.

I just want to limit my kids time vegging out on YouTube watching minecraft videos.  ANY help is appreciated!!

You're Not using Netgear firmware on the router so it won't work.

Thank you for the feedback searay!

So do you think I should upgrade the firmware?  I'm just nervous about making the router unsuable.

Thanks again.  Any advice is welcome!

If you want to use NG Apps you'll need to revert to NG FW.

The "unusable" concern Is always a possibility when deciding to use 3rd party Firmware so do you homework and follow the instructions carefully if you decide to revert back to NG firmware.
