Parental controls not working on any of my two NETGEAR routers
Hello, I have setup Parental Controls on my two routers (Nighthawk R7800 and WNDR4300). In https://netgear.opendns.com I can see the two devices. Even if I set the filtering level to "high" and i...

Hi Norvell1984,
You may refer to the links below on how to setup and configure LPC (Live Parental Controls).
http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/25687
Once you have the device/s connected, you can set the filtering level for each device. You may find the link below helpful.

Hi Dexter,
I appreciate your response. Here are my answers:
1. Do you have both devices as routers or is one setup as an AP?
Actually, both my routers are setup as APs in the same network. Is that itself a problem? Surely I would prefer to setup the gateway router, but it does not have parental controls.
2. What are the firmware versions of each device?
R7800: 1.0.2.04
WNDR4300: 1.0.2.80
3. Are the DNS values on the device UI's set to the OpenDNS values of 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220?
Nope. I have not seen this documented as a part of necessary configuration. Should I set these manually? Currently having difficulty to connect either via routerlogin.net or Genie "Reouter Settings" (not sure why), so cannot give it try at the moment.
4. Have you tried setting the filtering level using the NETGEAR Genie app/program on your devices?
Yes. Same result.
5. There are instances that the filtering does not take effect immediately right after setup since it will need to sync up with the OpenDNS servers.
Well, this has been as described for almost a week.
Best regards
Marek

Hi marekproc,
Thank you for responding. The Parental Controls feature work if the device/s are setup in router mode and not in AP mode. You may find the link below helpful.

Hi Dexter,
Thanks for sending the link. However, if I am not mistaken nowhere the arcticle says that the router needs to be in the router mode and not AP. What I did is that I manually entered the DNS addresses you provided, and after that it started to work. I am not sure if this is how is should be but it does filter contents as expected.
Best regards
Marek
