R8000 AC3200 Virus in Firmware

tried downloading genie software for windows directly from netgear but Kaspersky nailed the file as: trojan-downloader.win32.alien.ccl and forced a computer shut down and disinfected sequence before rebooting and eliminating the netgear file

Sounds like a false positive to me. I would ask Kaspersky. I have downloaded the same file with three different AVs installed, Nod32, Norton and Bitdefender and didn't get a positive on any of them.

Never been a big Kaspersky fan. When I have to run Windows I'd rather use Nod32 or Bitdefender. I always turn it off when working on the router or use Linux which never fails and has not viruses (yet).
