(caveat: I have Netgear Orbi, not Nighthawk)
My observation is that the web interface Attached Devices display can be different from the 'app' Connected Devices display. Apparently, both applications appear to use a form network deduction to attempt to determine the manufacturer of the network adapter used for connection by each device. (Perhaps licensed from one of the prominent companies.)
- The web interface has an option for user to 'click on' the device description that shows in Attached Devices and enter customized information, such as the product model number, a "name" used to describe the device, and a pull down menu to select one of the generic devices 'types'.
- The app interface also has a method for the user to click on a device and customize the way the device is described.
- Both of these mechanisms are "thrown for a loop" when a WiFi device randomizes the MAC address, leading to generic descriptions that are (essentially) nonsense.
These two mechanisms do not necessarily 'sync up' or coordinate. There are numerous devices connected to my Orbi router which have slightly different descriptions.
Perhaps the Nighthawk web interface and 'app' behave in a similar manner?
