Trying to enable parental controls. Do I have to have access to Windows?

Hi,

I do not have access to any Windows machines and want to set up parental controls through OpenDNS. I have installed the Android app, but when I try to log in to my OpenDNS account my user name and password is not accepted although I know it's right since I can easily log in to the OpenDNS site with it. However, when I go to https://netgear.opendns.com/devices.php it says that this account doesn't have any Netgear devices associlated with it and on the bottom of the page it tells me to download a Windows or Mac application which is of no use to me. Do I really have to have a Windows machine to user parental controls, or is there a way to get my Nighthawk associated with my OpenDNS account without having get a Windows computer?

  • Hi,

Thanks! I do have the Genie app on my tablet. It doesn't work with Android? I also have Linux machines and Chromebooks. Oh well, that sucks. Great router though and it runs Linux. 😀

I'm having same problem and am using a pc with windows 8.1.  Same result.  Worse, crashes ios app when i try it there.  Very frustrating.

  • I actually got Genie to run under Wine 1.6 on Linux. All functionality is there except for being able to set up parental controls.

      Hi studdawg and cdysthe,

You should be able to login to your OpenDNS account through the NETGEAR Genie and manage your LPC (Live Parental Controls) settings.

        Hi,

The problem was that I was not able to log in using any method. It turned out it was a known problem that OpenDNS fixed as soon as they were made aware of it. From today I am able to log in and set up parental controls.
