Unable to create a free OpenDNS account

I am currently trying to open a free OpenDNS account on Netgear Genie.  I am using a Netgear R6100 router, and setting up the  new account on Mac OS 10.10.5.  My problem is after I enter my username, password, and email into the fields, it keeps telling me to enter a 6-20 character password.  No matter what kind of 6-20 character password I put in the field, it keeps coming up with this and now I am stalled at this point trying to set up parental countrols.

 

I closed both Netgear Genie and my browser to try to make this work, but to no avail.  Anyone have an advice/assistance on this issue?

  • Spent and hour last night trying who knows how many passwords all with the right requirements and nothing happened, it wouldn't work.  Then I found this thread this morning, created an 18 digit password by combining 2 of my most frequently used passwords and it worked.

     

    Someone needs to send a memo to Netgear that the minimum character count for the password is not 8...I'm sure a 15 character password works as others have said, but I need something I could remember.

     

    So to all who find this thread, you need to have at least 15 characters in your password and you need to have at least 1 of the each of the following characters in the 15:

     

    1) A caplital letter

    2) A lowercase letter

    3) A number

    4) A special character !@#$%*()

     

    Hope this ends the frustration.

      It worked with 15 characters password!! THX! Netgear, fix your instructions!!

  • I am trying to sign up for a new account too and it keeps giving me a. Invalid email and I have checked it numerous times to make sure it is correct. I have been trying to sign up through the app.

      1. What device are using to sign up?

      2. Have you tried using another device (computer, another smartphone or tablet)?
