Reseting the router to default clears your settings and returns the router to out of the box state so you would have to reset up the router sometimes the only answer to fix a problem.

Apart from losing your settings, no. It is the only way to get in if you really have forgotten the password.

One thing you can do to rescue things is to save a backup of your current configuration. See page 76 of the manual.

It can also help to get screen grabs (Alt + Print Screen in Windows) of important pages in the configuration.

If all you have done is feed in the ISP's Internet settings, it is a simple task.
