MC227 (gen 1) Second hand setup

So I picked up this frame second hand and can't get it working. I did a factory reset which might have been the mistake -- as before it had a few generic pieces of artwork I could swipe through. I did the reset and now I can't get past this setup screen. I installed the app (iOS), but the product key 'might already be registered' -- so I'm stuck. This was going to get junked so I hoped to give it a nice second home...
From what I understand the original user needs to go into the meural app or website and remove the canvas from their account.

Yeah, that is what I finally came to understand - unforunately the previous owner was throwing the Meural out and had never un-registered the product. So it was forever locked to their abandoned account. Fortunately I knew the owner and I was able to work with tech support to get the device un-registered so I could register it to my account. It works now!
