Meural Screen Black - KNOWN Netgear Issue

I have a Meural screen that was working beautifully up until a this past week when it went black.  I have tried all the suggestions:  unplugged, factory reset, uninstall app, factory reset again, plugged directly to my router, etc.  Nothing fixes it.  When it powers on each time, I see the Meural (Powered by Netgear) start screen, and then it goes black and is unresponsive.

 

I spent almost an hour talking to customer service.  They refuse to escalate unless I purchase a Technical support contract from Netgear.  That is not acceptable.  This is a known issue with the Meural Canvas products.  I see hundreds of similar issues posted online.  Their only solution is for me to purchase another product so that I can own a second black screened device in another year.  Technology that costs this much is not supposed to be disposable.  We should not be asked to replace them year after year.

    This is a familiar conundrum for consumers: whether to spend the money up front to purchase extended warranties for every purchase or to save that money and "eat the cost" when something breaks after the warranty period expires.  There appear to be a variety of similar products on the market.  Many of them appear to have the same one year warranty.
