MK93 (MR90) Ethernet Backhaul Not Working

Hello!

I purchased an MK93S from BestBuy a couple days ago and I can't seem to get the ethernet backhaul to function to save my life.

The router and satellites are all running Firmware Version 1.0.1.36.

I have two Cat 6 cables ran from the back of the MR90 to the MS90s individually and both still say they are connected wirelessly. I'm really struggling to figure out what I'm doing wrong 😕

Any advice is appreciated!

  • I connected one of the satellites with a known good Cat6 patch cable from one of my server rooms and still nothing.

    BUT

Last night I stumbled on a thread on Reddit from a few years ago where this person had a specific restart pattern to get the ethernet backhaul to be recognized. It seemed silly to me but I tried it and it worked.

    Their steps:

    1. Verify cable functionality
    2. Unplug satellite one
    3. Reboot main router using the reboot function in the GUI
    4. Unplug satellite two
    5. Reboot main router using the reboot function in the GUI
    6. Reboot both satellites
    7. Reboot router one last time using the reboot function in the GUI

Voila - both showed as wired in the GUI.

Truly strange course of events but I am happy with the outcome!

So what makes you think the ethernet back haul isn't working?

Does the MR status under connected devices show wired or wireless connection?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between MR📡 and MS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? ️
