MR60 - MR1100 no internet connection

I have MR60 router with MR1100 providing internet connection thru GSM network.

Every time we have a power outage, my network goes crazy and I believe the issue is with the MR60 communicating with the MR1100. MR1100 WiFi connections to endpoints and access will be fine. It is MR60 - MR1100 which is giving me trouble. I have a hunch the problem is the MR60 WAN/Internet IP is on a different subnet than the MR1100, or that it is not getting an IP assigned by the MR1100.

Currently, I have MR-60 connected to MR1100 using WAN/Internet port out to Internet port in on MR1100. I have amber light on MR60 and no internet connection advisories on all my endpoints. All WiFi signals are good (both MR60 and MR1100). Internet is fine using MR1100 WiFi access.

I have reset both MR60 and MR1100 numerous times and have gone thru new setup numerous times.

Here are my network characteristics:

MR1100 LAN-side gateway IP 192.168.1.1

MR60 mesh network-side subnet: 10.0.0.0/24

Using the MR60 interface on routerlogin.com I have tried to reset the external IP from the MR60 which is hardwired to the MR1100, putting it on the same subnet using static assignment (for example making it 192.168.1.35) but there was still no connectivity between the two.

At my wits end here. Any ideas?

  • More details. Despite trying to change the WAN/Internet IP addressing, nothing ever "sticks."

Verified that DHCP is operating on my MR1100. This means the MR60 SHOULD be getting an IP, right?

You have both devices in router mode. It causes a double nat.

A double nat happens when you cascade more than 1 router.

Fixes? There’s 3 options but only use 1.
      1. Put the mr1100 in modem only/pass through mode. This disables its routing functions.
      2. Leave the mr1100 in router mode but put the mr60's IP address into its DMZ. This forwards the data to the mr60. You can either leave the modem/gateway’s wireless enabled or disabled. Just make sure its using a different wifi channel to prevent interference
      3. Put the mr60 into access point mode. This disables its routing functions. Wifi/ethernet still works but it does disable some features.
