MR70 does not lock out devices
I run a MR70 with two MS70 satellites and the connections is working well, so is access to the system via web-browser or app. But when I block a device that's on the network it displays as "blocked" but the device isn't blocked. It's consistent, what type of device or if it's 2.4/ 5 or LAN -connected doesn't matter, neither does waiting, rebooting, FW updates etc.
Any ideas short of switching system? Controlling what's on the network is a key feature.

What devices are not being blocked after you selected Block in the NH app?

Any kind, iPhones, laptops, Apple TV... Everything seems to work but it just dosen't block the selected device. It's not linked to the random MAC address function on cellphones, it's all over the board.

Could be as Randomizers can cause blocking issues with the system.
Have you tried disabling the randomizer on a device, then also set up a IP address reservation on the MR router for the one device: https://kb.netgear.com/25722/How-do-I-reserve-an-IP-address-on-my-NETGEAR-router
then once set, try to block it again?
Are you using the NH app or the WEB UI on the MR to configure blocking?

Blocking with the web administration or with the Netgear 'app'?
And, for certain, these devices operate normally? i.e. they can open web sites, do email, run apps, etc.?

Surf, watch streaming, chat... you name it, the device is set to blocked using the app (the web GUI dosen't have that feature, it says to use the app). I use the word "block" but it's that little pause button in the top right corner of the device screen in the app. At first I thought it was all fine but after getting suspicious I experimented trying it on other connected devices. All the same, they show as blocked/paused in the app but in reality they work fine.

Well, fudge. This is WRONG.
- We know it is not possible to "Pause" the device that is running the 'app' (because that is logically inconsistent).
- Blocking a device does not prevent the device from connecting. It only prevents the device from sending traffic through the MR70 system.
(That is why it will show up as "Connected", but Blocked.) - For example, if two Ethernet devices are connected to an Ethernet switch that is also connected to the MR70, those two devices can communicate all they want over Ethernet because their communication never leaves the switch and enters the MR70. They will show as Blocked.... but not to each other!
I have had episodes on the web interface where I made a setting but neglected to click on "Apply" at the top of the screen. Left the screen and my 'changes' never happened. Do not know if the Nighthawk app has a similar feature.

Yes, devices are connected regardless of pause/block. But they should not be able to access the internet. I believe it’s worked as expected before but can’t say when that changed. Next step is resetting the system as close to factory reset as possible, then set it up again from scratch. That doesn’t work I’m going to have to buy a complete new system, Netgear won’t be high on the list of candidates if it comes to that :-(
