Nighthawk MR60 Slow Internet Connection

Howdy all!

I have the oddest of problems with my MR60 mesh network. On the initial setup of the router I used the app and the router connected at 1gbps as it should. I cannot remember why a reset was performed, but it has never connected at that speed again. All wireless device speed tests hover around 30mbps download and I've spent hours chatting with Netgear tech support. No resolution as of yet and my network information follows:

  • 1Gbps FO Internet w/Ethernet cable from CPE to firewall
  • pfSense Plus firewall
  • Netgear ProSAFE GS108E 8 port smart switch
  • Nighthawk Mesh WiFi 6 System (MR60 w/1 satellite)(V1.1.7.134_2.0.65)

Simple setup: pfSense>switch>MR60. However, connecting the MR60 directly to the incoming Ethernet that provides the Internet connection does not change the 30Mbps. The switch tells me it is physically connected at 1Gbps via Ethernet to the MR60 Internet port. Configuring the MR60 while bypassing the firewall does not change the results.

I've disabled everything possible via the web gui with open NAT. I also prefer utilizing the web interface over any app. However, using the app for the initial setup produced the proper configuration, which I am unable to produce via web gui.

At this moment I am attempting to use the Setup Wizard to detect the Internet connection to see if the wizard can resolve the problem. NOPE!

I also tried using the Nighthawk app but there is a difference during setup. The first time it asked me to scan the QR code on the router. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app, and cleared the cache and data. It has not asked me to scan that code again, and it has not connected at 1Gbps again. I am unable to determine why the app no longer asks for the code scan, and I am unable to discern what the app configured differently.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

A more normal layout would be modem > MR60> other stuff.

That puts the router in charge of things, unless you have pout it into AP mode.

As to the pfSense, what is it and what is it doing in there?

pfSense is a firewall with IDS/IPS, domain filtering and much more.

It does not matter how the MR60 is connected to the internet. I can take the Ethernet cable that provides the Internet connection and directly connect the MR60, reset it and complete a basic setup again, and the connection speed hovers around 30mbps from 1Gbps service.

I know it's capable of 1gbps connection because it connected at that speed with the initial setup. One time and 30Mbps since. I actually tried the new Nighthawk app last week and still 30Mbps.

Try the MR in AP mode?

What is the brand and model# of the switch in between the firewall device and MR?
