Does the MR70 need to be wired to the RAX?
I'm trying to do the same with an existing RAX43v2. Will this same process work? If so, does the MR70 need to be wired to the RAX?

Yes has to be ethernet connected to the host router.
Disable the RAX radios and configure the MR for AP mode:

You don't need to disable the radio on the AX router. Just make sure it uses a different ssid and wifi channels from the MK system. I do it all the time with a standalone router and then a mesh system. It gives you a fall back from the mesh system and those devices closest to the RAX could be placed on it (if they're stationary) to offload some from the MK system.

I'm only running wired devices to the AX anyhow, so the disabling still worked for me. But very good to know that I could enable those in the future again if need be. Thanks!

Glad you got it working. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
