Why my internal network devices disconnect when the Internet goes down.
I have a WiFi 6 Mesh router system with a MR80 router + 2 x MS80 satellites. Attached in my home internal network are multiple NAS drives that are used for sharing files and connecting to multiple SmartTVs for media sharing.
What I'd like to know is why the internal devices can't stay connected to my PCs and other devices when the external Internet connection goes down. It doesn't make sense, unless the firmware in the router disconnects everything when it knows there is no external connection.
I suggest someone review this and resolve. There should be no reason to stop maintaining a connection between devices inside the network just because the Internet connection is gone. What if I need to print? What if I want to continue playing music or videos on my TVs while I wait for the Internet to be restored? There are plenty of reasons to keep it going, and no reason not to.
Yes, I have the latest firmware installed on all units. Yes, all my NAS drives have the latest firmware as well.

You are right. It doesn't make sense. So more information might help.
Among other things, what happens when "the Internet goes down"? That could describe various symptoms.

Only you know if your firmware is up to date. Here, we need to know the actual number. That's because there are various ways of getting a "Your firmware is up to date" response when in reality it is no such thing.
Not sure what your NAS firmware has to do with this. Yet again, it might help to have more details of what is happening at your end.

Before that can happen, it is important to confirm that this is a universal issue. If you are a one off, then there is a chance that it is down to something at your end. If every user of the MR80 saw the same thing, then Netgear needs to know about it.
As it is, I do not recall any other reports of this behaviour. And this doesn't add much:
